Essentially a retelling of Lord of the Rings boiled down to an adventure story with all the mythological references and elevated language removed. I don't remember exactly when I read the original Shannara trilogy. All I want to know is, why, after reading it and loving it, did it take me almost a good decade to read the Lord of the Rings?

Read this while stationed in Germany and it felt like I was right there in the story. I need to reread.

For the impertinence of basically pissing on Tolkien's grave, I would give this -5 stars, but have to make do with an utterly inadequate 1 star.
