I'm not going to do a full review of this one, but I have heard many times that the rest of the series is even better than The Thief, so I'll be continuing and reviewing later books! The Thief felt very much like a set-up/world-building book to prep for the rest of the series, which was what I had h...

I don't even know how to praise this book. Just say that I spent 500 paragraphs praising every single facet of it. I can't ever, ever get enough of Gen and Company. If this book isn't in my hands, it is almost always on a stable surface nearby or just at the tips of my fingers. I quote Megan Whalen ...

This was a fun story - I loved Whalen's world, and her story-telling additions were just delightful. Gen was a complex and interesting character, and the twist at the end really did surprise me! Can't wait to read the second book in the series.

Gen was a thief taken out of the king's prison to steal an ancient stone. The possessor of the stone was said to be the rightful ruler of the neutral country, Eddis, between Attolia and Sounis. Both countries viewed Eddis as the means to conquer their enemy. They were each trying to become the ruler...

Mixing fantasy with Greek legend and it feels quite realistic. The treatment of the Gods is quite realistic. We first meet Gen in a prison cell where he's languishing after boasting and stealing the great seal from the kings magician. The Mage rescues him to help recover a jewel of great price. ...

Having heard so many amazing things about Megan Whalen Turner’s The Queen’s Thief series, I finally snatched up the THE THIEF. After bragging that he “can steal anything,” Gen ends up in the King’s prisons, only to later be selected by the King’s scholar, the magus, to accompany him on a journey to ...

3.5 stars. I found The Thief a rather enjoyable read. I quite liked the main character, Gen, despite his tendency to be whiny. Little things that would bother me in other books didn't bother me so much in this one, though I would have liked very much to have seen some more character development arou...

Gen is the best thief in the land--too bad he's also the most boastful. After stealing the king's seal and showing it off to his cronies in a wine shop, Gen is caught and throne in jail to rot. But eventually, the king realizes he has need of him. Gen is sent on a mission to steal something (what...

3.5 stars!! For some reason, I kept suffering under the misconception that 'guns' have no place in a high fantasy world. And surely, The Thief shouldn't have any mentions of modern warfare? Well, that's hardly relevant nor important to the main point I was just getting to. This kind of book is not a...

I've been told by so many people that this series is amazing, but that the first book is kinda lackluster. I didn't know much more than that going into The Thief, and perhaps that's why I enjoyed it more than others seem to. Importantly, I didn't know there was a twist at the end and so I didn't see...
