This is a delightfully creepy story...it's no wonder it's a classic. Supernatural elements tie in with a foreboding sense of madness and evil, and the ending is downright shocking. This is a story that will haunt readers for years to come.

This book is creepy as hell, for several different reasons. My skin crawled on several occasions. At times I had to think about putting it down and walking away for a while. Given that the edition I was reading was only 88 pages, that's saying something!Lots of spoilers ahead - in fact, most of the ...

A ghost story should be an automatic win for me, but I couldn't pay attention for the life of me!

I remember the whole beginning as a succession of flights and drops, a little seesaw of the right throbs and the wrong. After rising, in town, to meet his appeal, I had at all events a couple of very bad days--found myself doubtful again, felt indeed sure I had made a mistake. In this state of mind ...

This story started off pretty good for me and then just got a bit boring and confusing. The dialog that was amusing and witty, in the beginning, quickly turned repetitive and started to grate on me. I will say that this story may hold the world record for the excessive use of commas and run-on sente...

You can put me firmly in the camp of not much caring for or about this book. I'm fairly sure it is because the material is dated and the author's prose is awkward. Much is said about nothing. I felt like James was so enamoured of his own pen scratching the paper that he just went on and on and on. ...

I had to read The Turn of the Screw for school. When I first heard what it was about, it sounded really interesting and intriguing. It's about this woman (we don't know her name) who applies for a job as a Governess to take care of two children, Miles and Flora. The children were previously under th...

I was not as impressed as I think I should have been by James' prose, yet I think I was left shaken by the shadows in the interstices between the narrator's words. In fact, James' prose was tedious and sometimes downright irritating. But irritating in the way a fern tickling your nose might be irrit...

What an awful story! It was extremely wordy and hard to follow. It is about a governess who is insane, or is she? Could have been written in 30 pages, but had to labor through 128 pages of boredom. Only book that is worse is Moby Dick.
