I'm finding these books to be "space soap opera" rather than space opera. I like it though. They also always have a clever hero like House or The Mentalist.
so i was engaging in a favorite pastime on friday night, namely verbal one-upmanship slash sadistically using the power of my oh so mighty intellect to tease my poor innocent friends, when the very drunk birthday boy said "You know you are going to get smacked if you keep on talking like that." i co...
It was three stars most of the way, but the ending cleared the bar. Bujold can really end a book. I have less to say about this one than [b:Barrayar|61905|Barrayar (Vorkosigan Saga, #2)|Lois McMaster Bujold|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348837985s/61905.jpg|3036422], which was written later but come...
These are really, really good. After reading a couple from later in the series, I've tracked back and read this one, which introduces the character of Miles Naismith Vorkosigan. Although handicapped by several birth defects due to an assassination attempt on his parents before his birth, Miles refus...
I really liked the way certain plotlines were handled in The Warrior's Apprentice. For example, the romance subplot between Miles and Elena. No spoilers (just in case), but in almost any other (newer) YA book I KNOW the romance would have gone a different way, or it'd have been drawn out for another...

Love Miles! He's disabled from a gas his mother was exposed to while pregnant and has extremely brittle bones. This has led to many leg breaks that have resulted in him being around 5 feet tall. With Barraryan a military planet and him from a long line of military men, he tries but cannot pass th...
I flat-out love Miles. Even given my prejudice toward teenaged boys, Miles is special. He's a clueless clown who manages to save the day at the last possible second... over and over again. This book is a meditation about honor and truth and mission and yet it's hilariously funny and kind of a space ...
*sigh* I really wanted to like this book, but... (That disappointed baby is effing adorable though, so I guess this review won't be ALL bad.)Well, it wouldn't be ALL bad anyway. I wanted to like this so much. I liked the idea of this book much more than I liked the actuality of it, actually. I feel ...
