I went my entire 37 years without having ever read an Oz book, so now I'm making up for lost time. This one was very interesting and compelling enough that I have committed to reading the rest of the series. There's a lot more to Oz than what you see in the movie! The biography of L. Frank Baum is ...

Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Penguin Popular Classics) - L. Frank Baum I just finished reading this with my 5 year old daughter, and it's just as magical now as it was when I was a kid. She loved every word! I would highly recommend this as a great first chapter book to share with a child.

I've watched the original movie so many times since childhood and I was really excited to finally pick up the book. There were many differences between book vs. movie. One major difference is that the movie made it seem like Oz was just a dream. In the book - Oz is real! Dorothy's house really did ...

I was prepared to be delighted with it, wanted to be delighted with it. I wanted to like it so much that I'm tempted to make excuses for it. I would...

Rating: 3 of 5 The Wonderful Wizard of Oz just couldn't outshine its film adaptation. I think for the first time in my life - I'd have to really think on it to know for sure - I actually enjoyed a book less than its cinematic counterpart. Shocking, right?! It's not that the story was boring ...

I am a little disappointed that the annotated edition is tied in with the normal editions of this book on here. This was a Christmas present, a book I long coveted. I wrote two papers on The Wizard of Oz in grad school, one for a witchcraft literature class and one for a class on film adaptations of...

Just as good as the film (one of the few musicals I can stand) but in a completely different way. I find the book creepier. Should definitely give it a reread, as I'm too faint on the finer points of this one!
