Sigh!! Romance at it's best!
Title and Statement of Responsibility
I had the nagging feeling that I'd read this one before, but I didn't end up caring! Set largely in France before the Revolution, Heyer has created the ultimate feisty heroine and reformed-rake pair. The supporting cast is well-rounded and very endearing.

For some reason I wasn’t super wild about this one the first time I read it. I enjoyed it much more this time through, though I think Devil’s Cub will always top it. [Sept. 2011]

Not my favorite book by Ms. Heyer... Difficult to write my thoughts about the book. I could only skim it, because most of the book was, frankly, boring to me. So unlike the delightful Regency romances that Ms. Heyer is known for.I particularly disliked the "hero". Justin Alastair (Duke of Avon) read...

This was my second experience with Georgette Heyer, and I found it quite amusing. I was captivated from beginning to end with her very engaging and humorous writing style. The plot was full of twists and turns, and every time I thought something cliched would pop up, Heyer surprised me with somethin...

It was a good book with lot's of twist and turns. The ending was as expected. However, having figured that out about 25% into the book it was still a great read and kept my attention. The characters were all interesting and most played a huge part in making the story enjoyable.

Justin Alistair is handsome, fashionable, and merciless. As the Duke of Avon in the mid-Eighteenth century, he has far more power and money than he really knows what to do with. An urchin's red hair catches his attention, and he buys the boy from his loutish older brother. And thus begins the adv...

Very witty and funny but the writing is too formal and cold for the characters to appeal to me.It's a personal problem. Nothing to do with you.

Georgette Heyer outdid herself with this one. This is going in my top five for sure! The whole girl disguising herself as a boy thing always had me intrigued, Heyer added humor and BAM! A hilarious romp. The Duke of Avon is strolling home one night and happens upon a ragamuffin fleeing from their nas...
