There are some lovely and thought-provoking essays here, and I love that they're all short enough to read in just a few minutes, and that you can read just one or two essays at a time and then put the book down for weeks without losing your place or sense of continuity. It took me six months to read...
I got this as a pre-release galley proof. It looked better than the usual advance stuff and I thought it might be interesting. I was underwhelmed.
I couldn't stop myself from buying this book at the Texas Book Fair. I so liked the concept. The actual chapters, however, tended to be humdrum, broad and run-of-the-mill. The few exceptions were bright chapters by unknowns. Not as interesting as I had hoped.
