This one just wasn't for me. There was some lovely language, and I'm sure it's lovelier in the original Spanish. But, I just didn't really like the book itself. I'm trying to put my finger on why and I think it's mostly the characters. I found them all either ridiculously mean or completely weak...

I found this story to be really cute. There is just this innocent feel to it that I really loved about it. I also enjoyed Magical Realism elements very much. My one complaint is that I would have preferred it if she had ended up the man that she didn't end up with in the end.

Tita, a young Mexican girl, falls in love with Pedro and seems destined for a life of marital bliss except for one problem. Tita is the youngest daughter of the de la Garza family and based on family tradition, she cannot marry because she is responsible for caring for her mother until she dies. B...

This is a beautiful story, but painfully so because I felt so bad for the heroine, Tita. She's doomed to a life of servitude by virtue of birth order (family tradition dictates the youngest girl has to remain unmarried and take care of her mother), so the man she loves marries her sister. The family...

I'm not keen on recipes as a rule, but I enjoyed this enormously.

Weird. WEIRDI DON'T GET ITI'm not really into this sort of thing... the translation was a bit... interesting. I read this because it's mentioned in Anna and The French Kiss and I can't say I'm overly impressed. Not a lot of character depth or relationship progress and that peeved me a lot. So, yes, ...
