While being a elegantly written and composed story the tale of a puritan society I believe was better told by Arthur Miller in his "The Crucible". It seems that Nathaniel Hawthorne tries to convey how the all pervasive power of stifling religion kills life, love and all pursuits of pleasure but he d...

I honestly didn't know what to expect from this book. Even though it had a rather interesting plot line, I knew it is an old book, and therefore probably written in a style that didn't appeal to me. All in all though, I really enjoyed this. The story itself was wonderful, and even though the writing...

Although the book is dated of course, I found it quite impressive. It certainly is worth reading, to get to know a world of which one hardly can believe it ever existed.

It took forever for me to finish this book because of how crazy my life was at the time, but I'm glad I was finally able to finish it. It's a classic for a reason.

I have had to read the Scarlet Letter several times for school courses and dreaded it each time. The book was incredibly dry to me and couldn't maintain my interest. Most classics I have read earn at least 4 stars from me, but I just couldn't do it for this one.

Quick read, very depressing what happens to Hester and the baby. And the man who got her pregnant is a PIG!

I bought this book after seeing the movie, when I heard about the ridiculous change of ending. I haven't finished the book, it's on my list of "I should really read this someday" books.

I loved it! It was SO good! I thought it was going to be dull, but from the first chapter I was totally sucked in. It was a very captivating story. All the characters were so compelling – Hester, Dimmesdale, Pearl, Chillingworth … Ahhh such a great cast of characters, and it was pure genius how all ...
