I'm going to be very predictable: 2001. And it isn't even really close. The science, the themes, the awe and mystery -- it's incredible on every level.
Blade Runner (the Director's Cut) would be next for me.
I would put three of those (the first three) up at the top, and I'd even stick Star Wars in there (the original, before it got plastered with that horrible "Episode IV" title). Phase IV is another one. If it just had a better ending...
I kind of hated The Matrix the first time I saw it. But there was something about it, I guess, that I watched it again. And I liked it a whole lot more the second time. But I never did see any of the sequels. Guess I haven't missed much.
The Matrix and Star Wars would both rate highly for me.
