A good author to start with is Georgette Heyer. She is the master of the Regency romance.
My mother gave me my first Heyers at about 13 or so; quite "clean" by modern standards.
What am I looking to get out of the group? Recommendations. Discussions. Chats with likeminded folk.
Sock Poppet, did you change your avatar? This one seems more menacing, somehow. I liked the cute monkey!

That's one of the things I love about Heyer. Since she didn't write sex scenes, she had to come up with an actual story that was engaging.
I'm not averse to sex scenes, but there are many authors who substitute them for good writing and a well-crafted plot.

Yes, I did change my avatar. I was using a picture I found on the internet and I didn't want to keep doing that. This one is was made by my mom when I was little. I've love it all my life!
(He's really very sweet. He'll be ecstatic to find out that you think he looks menacing!)

I think I prefer a "clean" version, pg13 maybe, haha. If I'm in the mood for something steamy, that's one thing. But I tend to read historical books more to learn about the time period, so overly sexed up characters tend to be a distraction for me.

Maybe he's just in Hallowe'en mode and will get all warm and fuzzy for Christmas. ;-)
Too bad about the Internet thing, but I understand. I paid for mine (for a cover idea that didn't work out, not for an avatar), so I have no qualms about using it. But it's important to respect copyright.
Hi all,
Not sure if this is the best place to post this but, just thought yall would like to know about two HF shows.
Philippa Gregory's White Queen just ended:

and Reign (about Mary Queen of Scots) just started:
http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2063967769/
I've only seen 15 minutes of Reign, and it seems a little bit modernized, maybe geared toward a younger audience. I haven't seen enough to know how historically accurate it will be, but I'm not expecting much.
Since my favorite author is Georgette Heyer, I am looking for authors/books similar to her. I see that several people are her fans as well in this group, so I hope to get new titles.
Im looking for actual historical fiction, and not historical romance lol
