Discussion: What are you looking to get out of this group?

back to group
This is my first time moderating a group and I want it to be enjoyable for everyone. Is there anything that you would like to see in this group? Recommendations? Group read-a-longs? Giveaways? Challenges?

I personally would like recommendations but I don't know how to format it yet. I don't think that there should be one post only for recs, that would be a disaster. I'm thinking more along the lines of by sub-genre and/or time period.
I'd like book recommendations and to interact with authors. I love reading historical fiction, but a lot of what I've found lately involves princesses. That's nice and all, but I'd really like books about everyday people through out history, and not just what it was like for royalty.
Group reads might be nice too, depending on the book.

Great, thanks for the ideas and suggestions Parkville Bookworm.
One place I've found great recommendations is from a "What are you reading now?" thread. Just seeing what everyone else has just finished and started has given me great ideas and exposed me to new authors and sub-genres of historical fiction. I might not read a thread about, whatever, dogs in medieval times or something. But if someone listed on a thread that they just finished a *fantastic* book that dealt with treatment of animals in 15th C England, then it might catch my eye.
Thanks for the idea. I had posted a currently reading post but the title was really awkward so I changed it to "What are you reading now?" Hopefully we can all get some great recommendations from it.
My favorite books are Regency romances. Anybody else interested in that?
I just started getting into regency romances more. I have only read a couple but am definitely looking to read more of them.
I grew up on Georgette Heyer.

That's great! I tried to find a group where I could discuss Regencies and other books about the 19th century, but I couldn't find any active ones. :)
Looking to see what everyone else is reading - I'm dead nosey like that! Would not be wanting to join in group reads, however,

If we were to do group reads I don't think it would be something everyone would have to join in on. Thanks for your thoughts. I am also interested in seeing what everyone is reading.

Tippy, that is a great idea for group reads, thanks.

@ Sock Puppet at Play -- I've never read a Regency romance, but I'd be open to checking them out! I don't mind a good love interest, especially if the book is really well researched and historically accurate.
Just another idea, Denise. Is there a way to make categories here, and threads within? For example, a category for Recommendations, and then we can add threads for each individual one? (regency romance recommendations would be one thread, whatever people are looking for, instead of one big thread?) That might help keep things a bit more organized. May be something to post in the Official BL group, if it's not an option yet.
Liza: I've been looking for a way to do that but it doesn't look like Booklikes has that as a option yet. I'd really love to organize everything that way. It would be so much easier for our group. I am going to suggest that to BL in their group (if somebody hasn't already). Thanks.
