Discussion: What Are Good Values in a Book?

This is the place to talk about our criteria: what do you consider to be "good values" in a work of fantasy? I've got my concept of that: that the book encourages us to be a better person, and helps us understand how to do that in some way, large or small. What do you think?
Despite all obstacles, win or lose, the story must express and reinforce the ideal purpose and power of doing good for the sake alone that it's the right thing to do; and trust me, I'm one that preaches the realities of the world and how good guys don't always win.
Albert Einstein said: "If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales."

Do you agree? Do you think this "intelligence" also includes values?

What positive life lessons have you learned from your favorite fantasy books?

Thanks, Wade, for that comment. I agree that we learn a sense of right-ness from the good vs. evil world of fantasy books, something that is larger than our personal, individual, often petty needs and desires, something worth striving for.

Do you have a particular book to point to that you think does this well?
