Sometimes I just need a break from books (blasphemy!). What's going on in everyone's lives?
Fall-like weekend here in Wisconsin. I've a movie to watch for class (Smoke Signals or Thunderheart) and looking forward to the Walking Dead on Sunday, my guilty tv pleasure. Working night shift, unfortunately, so will also be trying to catch up on sleep.
Mostly I'm hatin' on the cheapass Murrikin GOP yahoos. Ya know, the usual.
I'm excited that a new independent bookstore is opening on Main St. in town (we've been without one for about 3 years), and I have several knitting projects to ride herd on (a baby sweater and a ribbed cabled scarf both need finishing, but there's this cowl I keep eying, and this sweater pattern...).

Autumn is a coming-in down here in South Carolina, the leaves are starting to turn, and it's still raining. (It's been raining all year, I think. Wettest year I can remember.)
So sorry. My dad did that when I was 8 1/2. Those are all perfectly natural responses, I think.
I've got a sunny weekend, good for cricket. Speaking of which I'm heading off to go and hopefully attend a signing of a book by a favourite cricket player. Then I'm playing for the day before heading home for a meal, to read and play video games. Oh and finish off the final essay for the year - but how important does that rate?

Your projects sound lovely. What with this ruckus black-holing my life I have only managed to complete 2 pairs for this Socktoberfestso far. 2 more than I ever thought I would manage but Downton Abbey has helpedme sit down and crack on. ( I have to watch each episode twice)
Real life means I am autumn-ising the gardens - digging in tulips so next may/june all that will be missing is a unicorn. @ No Book, angry is the best way to go; bottling up will not cure a thing.

I'm really sorry. My dad did that, too. Sadly, I wasn't sorry.

@NBLBbook blog: I feel for you. I think it was about thirty years ago when my parents first had a 'trial separation.' Unfortunately, they drew out the process for another four years, leaving my sister and I in the midst of turmoil. Hang in there.
Over in sunny UK I'm about to teach an intensive course in critical reading and grammar for SAT I (wish I was going to US college... but I'm 29 at the end of the month)
@Carol--what sort of class has you watch movies?
@NoBookLeftBehindBlog--I'm so sorry to hear that! Hang in there!
@Zanna--I had no idea that the SAT was a Thing outside of the U.S.! CollegeBoard and standardised tests...that's one thing I'm glad to be done with.

I'm trying to get back into things after being out for a bit and doing the standard "trying to get out of academia" stuff -- teaching-assistant stuff, research, jobsearch. I'm relearning that no matter how hard you try to disambiguate, it is impossible to phrase homework questions in such a way that some student won't manage to misunderstand...
My husband and I went to see The Merchant of Venice last night - today I have to get the house cleaned up for our gaming group.

That's a tough situation, No Book. I hope it's as painless as humanly possible.
What kind of gaming do you do, Megan?
It was a lot of fun! Their Portia spoke somewhat affectedly - my husband thought she was trying to do a Katherine Hepburn type of thing, and that was a little jarring, but otherwise, it was really excellent.

Tabletop roleplaying, Carol. I was supposed to start running the second season of a Primetime Adventures game we've played before - set in Jazz Age Chicago, but with fae. I didn't have time to prep, though, so we're just hanging out tonight.

We switch games a lot, though - right now we're also about to start playing a Drama System game, in the middle of a Monster Hearts game, and a Fate game. We lean towards the indie/hippie part of the RPG world.
Ah, "real-life" RPGing. I remember it well. Good times.
Need help?
