I know I have seen this topic somewhere, but I am no longer able to find it, so...
Now and again, I have someone following me whose profile clearly is a fake, a company advertising their totally not reading-related products.
Right now, for example, there is one trying to sell laserpointers, with an advertising text that is so badly translated, it is almost funny. They did not spam me or contact me in any way, but I find it irritating that they are there, right among my "regular" followers.
I know that I can block them, but I also want to be able to flag them to BL's attention, so they can decide what to do with them.
Is there a way of flagging, or do I have to use the contact link?
Hi there!
So we know that there is a huge problem with spammers on BL at the moment. We are grateful that our users are letting us know and sending whole lists of spammer accounts either via email, or BL messages, or like yourself here in this discussion. (Oops, nearly deleted this as we thought it was started by a spammer given the title...)
So, to let you all know, at least a few times a day we go through the platform and 'handpick' those blogs and remove them. At the moment, we are working on more strict verification process to disable some of these accounts from the get-go and other tools which we would not give too many details about here, seeing this discussion is available to public.
Regarding a 'flag it' tool - at the moment there is no such thing as our team can actually see this accounts anyway, but it is a matter of them outnumbering us sometimes.
However, you should know that when bloggers block other bloggers, our team also receive a notification - so feel free to block them all! Seeing this notifications make us aware that there is an unwanted user there ,too and we will set them as a spammer from the admin side, too.
We would also like to say sorry to everybody, this is frustrating, we know that and we hope that very soon we will be able to at least decrease the number of these filthy people.
Thanks a lot for sticking with us, anyway!
You can always email us at contact@booklikes.com and let us know who needs to be doing bye, bye.
BL
Thanks for the detailed answer! And also thanks for not deleting this topic ;) Maybe I should have chosen a different title - feel free to change it to something more unambiguous.
Also good to know that you get notified when a profile is blocked. I think that this will be my method of choice from now on whenever one of those spammers shows up.
I wish you success in your fight against spam. Keep up the good work!
Ok so our 'guy on the post' ;) surprised us nicely today and got one of the features for spammers done:
any account that has been mark as a spam by BL team will no longer be able to interact with users by leaving comments under your posts. Also, their posts should not be visible to you, either. However, as nicely as he did surprise us today... it still needs more touch ups, precisely users that got a comments from a spammer will still receive a notification, as well as the number of the comments for a given post will increase (icon below the post, next to heart) although you cannot see the actual post.
Again, you are welcome to keep reporting spams by email, or here, or just block them, but don't feel obligated - we do check it every day and still developing filters that should do that job automatically as well, so hopefully we are one step closer form winning over filthy spammers!
BL
As for today the registration process has gained one more step - email verification to make this process a little more timing for filthy spamming work forces. Yes we just did call them that. ;)
Anyway, still working on strengthening the filters and blocking engagement options for these already set as a spam.
Thanks everybody for being patient with us!
Thanks for the heads up. And don't stop calling them foul names! ;)
Is done,
great thank you :)
BL
Thank you! Is eliminated! :)
Cheers
All spammers are deleted.
Thanks for the report and Happy New Year!
Can I ask what the purpose of this thread is, is this for publishers to profile themselves?
