I adore all the Shardlake books, by C.J. Sansom. (Dissolution, Dark Fire, Sovereign, Revelation, Heartstone, Lamentation)

I adore We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. I'm not a huge fan of contemporary, but this one really blew me away.
Also The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is absolutely fantastic.
