September is home to Banned Books Week, so let's pick a book that made that list and proudly read/discuss it.
Taking all ideas! Shout them out.
Sherman Alexie's "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" has been on my to read list for years, and constantly shows up on Banned Book lists! It even became part of a huge kerfuffle in Idaho two years ago when some crazy parent called the police because teens were, gasp, giving books away for free after the parents had successfully managed to intimidate the school district into banning the book from their reading list.

This is why I freaking love teenagers. Ha!
In fairness, the police were all like "ummm, yeah, it's actually not illegal to give away books, lady. Don't call again."
Both Looking for Alaska by John Green and Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini were challenged by a school in my area. I've wanted to read both of them for a while now.
Fabulous choices! I've actually read all three (although I don't mind re-reading at all) and they are all equally wonderful. Keep those options coming! I'll post a poll on the 15th.
I'm gonna go with the classic Catch-22, by Joseph Heller because I have never read it.
Alright ladies and gents, the poll for our book choices is up!

You have until the end of the weekend (8pm on 8/21) to vote!
Just a reminder that today is the last day to vote! The vote is currently tied, so make your opinion known :).
Well, I voted, but now it is a three way tie instead of a two way tie. I would change my vote to Catch-22 (only because I've already read The Kite Runner), but I can't figure out how to do it!
I think I accidentally turned that off MM. LOL. Oops. Well let's see if anyone else votes in the next hour, otherwise I'll just manually move your vote! :)
So the winner is THE KITE RUNNER!
I think we seriously need to discuss how slow BookLikes is being, and consider a discussion in a possible alternate location. Does everyone have access to Google Hangouts? We could have a set time where we discuss things live in a chat. Or I can start looking around for another forum. Let me know if anyone has other ideas.
Otherwise, we'll start reading THE KITE RUNNER on September 1st!
Google+ also has communities that offer different categories and threads. Several BL folks have been searching for alternatives in case BL either disappears or becomes unusable. Not much luck in finding anything beyond Goodreads.
Per Cheri's suggestion (thank you!) I made a Google Plus community, just in case. Always better to have a backup, right?
