back to group
Is anyone interested in monthly group reads, buddy reads, etc? I know booklikes is not ideally setup for this yet but I think we could make it work if there is enough interest.
Sure, I'm interested! Especially as it nears December (when I get time of off from teaching!) I look forward to tackling something new. Count me in and I'll participate if I can--or as soon as I can.
Want to nominate something? I don't necessarily want to dominate here.
Hmm...I've had Stoker's novel, The Jewel of the Seven Stars, on my bookshelf for some time, but never got around to reading it. I know Dracula very well, but this one not at all. I imagine it's not a great work, but I still want to know it...does that sound interesting? It's not a long book by any means. I hate to suggest something that's more traditional, so if you were thinking something more contemporary I'm game for that as well. Just the first thing that caught my eye.
I don't know this one at all and that's saying something. Is it a novella? I'd be game. Is it in the public domain? Not necessary, just wondering.
It is in the public domain--I'm pretty sure you can get a free copy in the Kindle store. It's about a mummy that comes back to life looking for a stolen treasure; it's not very long, much shorter than Dracula, and the first few chapters I read a year or so ago were very interesting. I'll be happy to read it along with you if you find it--I actually have an old paperback Penguin copy of the book.
Jumping in quite late... it's available via gutenberg at http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/3781.
I apologize that I've been neglecting the group here. I know I've asked this before but I'd like to get a show of hands if there is enough interest to sponsor a monthly read. Post here or send me a personal note Gumbywan.booklikes.com.
As a way to sort of prime the pump, I'm going to put up the same books I am moderating for the Literary Horror group over on badreads here each month. We are currently enjoying North American Lake Monsters by Nathan Ballingrud. I'll try to pay attention here, really, I promise, okay?
I am hosting a September Monthly Read of Dark Entries by Robert Aickman over on badreads. For those of you that won't touch goodreads with a ten foot cattle prod, I'll host the same thing here and I'll copy all MY comments over here to prime the pump so to speak. I'll start on September 1.
We're going to read The Halloween Tree for October 2014 over at badreads in the Literary Horror group over there. Even if you hate gramazon and want to keep all your shelves and reviews over here (I don't blame you) you are always welcome to participate or follow along with the discussion over there.
