Hi! I would like some clear guidelines on adding a book to your catalog.
I keep feeling nervous since when I do it I don't know if I'm doing it right!
Is there a specific size a cover should be?
Should I put the series name and book number in the Title field? How should it look?
Is it necessary to put the format of a book in the Description?
The publishing date should be in which format? (YYYY/MM/DD?)
I don't really get the Source field. Is it only for pages on Amazon and other book stores or can it also be used for free online books and book pages on a publisher's site?
If there is already a page with this information can someone link it, please? :)
Hi, I think there are several ways you can do it. What I do is just go to my shelf and type in the name of the book and put that in, it should automatically put the cover of the book in for you. If you've already put it on your shelf and are writing a review, I just find it on my blog and hit edit, there's a big plus sign at the top which I use to get the correct book I want.. You can also type the ISBN number in and find the book of your choice. I just use Amazon for mine but you may want to use others. Under settings, the big wheel at the top of your screen you can go to search and view all the sites that you can search books from. It doesn't have all the sites out there such as Project Gutenberg (at least not yet) but it has quite a few, put check marks next to the one's you want to use.
I'm not really sure what you mean about putting a format or publishing date. The only date I've seen so far are for dates when you've read a book but I'm still pretty new here myself. The source field is to cite your sources. Like for instance if you use a picture from a different website, it's best to cite the original author. If you use quotes form a book it's a good idea to cite where you got them from. Basically if you "borrow" anything or use anyone elses work you should cite it but be careful there are copyright laws and copyright infringement issues you could get into borrowing stuff that is copyrighted to other people. Best thing to do is A. Always ask permission first if you're unsure and B. try to find pictures and stuff with a creative commons license, they'll usually state how you can use their pictures and usually you just have to give credit somewhere to them such as in your source field. Sorry I'm not more help, still pretty new here myself.
Here's a bunch of tutorials and links on tutorials. The most I've seen in one spot so far: http://themisathena.booklikes.com/bl_formatting

Sorry, if I wasn't clear in the post but I'm talking about adding a book to the Booklikes database not to my blog but thank you for trying to help. :)
I keep on finding books that are not on here and I want to know if Booklikes has a preference on how they want the book entries to look.
To add new book use "Add new book" option in search box:
Then add all required book details, cover (minimum medium size), title, author, description, isbn. You can also add source - URL to a given page the information is from, i.e publisher's site ...
Okay... so I guess Booklikes doesn't care about book release date or format?
I've been hoping that Booklikes' database will get a makeover and such information would be important...

There will be edit book info option, we hope to add it with new book data base.
Hi guys. I'm hoping this is the right place to post this. I have been trying to add a new book all day, but the after the "no results found" text there is no longer an "add book" link for me. Has this been changed?

Sorry for any inconvenience. We'll re-add this feature really really soon.
I think I screwed up when adding another edition of "Nicht einschlafen" (http://booklikes.com/nicht-einschlafen-peter-lontzek/book,12856405). I thought it said "AND add other author", not "OR add other author", so I wanted to add the narrator in addition to the author. Now it is only the narrator (Peter Lontzek) who is displayed, not the author (Sebastian Fitzek).
Could somebody please correct this?
And is there a way to add the narrator or illustrator as well as the author?
Thanks :)

We'll correct that. Thanks for letting us know.
I've been trying to add in a new book for my shelf for the past few days and I haven't been able to add in a new book since the search results is not loading properly. Has the site gone through some changes recently?

@Ronyell (a.k.a Rabbitearsblog): Hi, we've undergone some makeover (design and book database) but you can still add new books to BL, the link to "Add a new book" is in the search result box and the link is here:
http://booklikes.com/book/add. If you wish to add a new edition to a given title, please go to a book page or Other Editions page and select "Add a new edition".
I just posted a review for the Wastewater Gardner: Preserving the Planet One Flush at a time!. I was able to upload a photo I had to my review but when I went to add it to my shelf, the isbn printed on my first edition copy is coming up Down the Global Drain: Adventures of a Wastewater Gardener, by the same author. I googled the book with the isbn, and the Wastewater Gardener comes up on Amazon and on Goodreads. The isbn 13 is 97809007791515 and the isbn i10 is 0907791514.
how do I add the correct book to my shelf?
http://www.synergeticpress.com/product/the-wastewater-gardener/ is the website for the book and the publisher.
