I'm embarrassed to say that even though I have a BA in Literature and am a lifelong obsessive reader, I just don't get Virginia Woolf. I want to. I'm fascinated by her life, her circle of friends, and her era, but I find her writing impenetrable and thus boring. Just thinking about it makes me yawn.
A Book Addict's Musings by Readinghearts
I have always been afraid to read Virginia Woolf, thinking that she would be a difficult read, boring, or worse. Boy was I wrong. I really enjoyed this book. It's true that Virginia Woolf's writing style is sometimes a little confusing. At least in this book, she uses a stream of consciousness st...

Viginia Woolf fans may like the passage I just read in Jan Kjærstad's Oppdagaren. Jonas is sitting in front of the window at a hotel in Jotunheimen, one of Norway's most beautiful mountain areas, reading To the Lighthouse:Han fortsatte å lese, om mulig enda mer oppslukt. I read this two or three years ago and noted that I didn't enjoy it, but, unusually, I didn't jot down anything more and I can't remember anything about it now! I don't think I'll reread it to check why.

A bit slower for my taste, quite lyrical and melancholic, yet interesting. After this first encounter, I didn't think I'd continue reading Woolf, but I very much did so.

I am sorry, but this book just bored me to tears. I picked it up years ago for an assignment in English class. I remember regretting my choice. However, I don't remember there being a real point to the story. I know there are many fans of Virginia Woolf. Maybe her writing just isn't for me.

When my family and I went to the ocean, oh, about two weeks ago, it was cloudy and miserable. My son still wanted to see the lighthouse, needless to say we went, but it was still to foggy to see it. I couldn't help raising my fist over my head and cursing Virginia Woolf.Last week we went back for a ...
