I haven't read a Rex Stout book in quite a while - maybe that's why I was taken aback by all the casual racism and misogyny in this book. These early ones take a lot of "getting into." I didn't like it much until at least half-way through, but certainly did end up liking it. I think it's time for a break, though, from Nero Wolfe.
