*Book source ~ Library Do I really need to summarize this book? It’s Treasure Island, a classic for Pete’s sake! Ok, ok…Jim Hawkins is a young son of an innkeeper. When a drunken pirate, Billy Bones, comes to stay at the inn he tells Jim many different stories, but he also has Jim keep a weather e...

The most popular pirate story ever written in English, featuring one of literature’s most beloved “bad guys,” Treasure Island has been happily devoured by several generations of boys—and girls—and grownups. Its unforgettable characters include: young Jim Hawkins, who finds himself owner of a map to ...

It was dreary, cold and raining Saturday morning. I didn't want to go out, so I made a cup of hot cocoa, snuggled under a throw in my favorite reading chair and re-read Treasure Island. It simply doesn't get much better than that.

This is the archetypal pirate story. We have "shiver me timbers", "Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum", pieces of eight, parrots, cutlasses, peg legs, etc. The whole shebang. It's also a very good story. Stevenson is a great author. It interests me that a number of reviewers have complained that this bo...

3.5 stars, for me. A brilliantly written, rollicking yarn. No subtext to speak of - it's really just an adventure novel, but that's no terrible thing. I'd have liked a little more characterisation, but this could only have been achieved at the cost of pace, which would actually impoverish the work a...

At last, I've read Treasure Island! It was such a treat. I usually don't like to give ratings to classics because I don't see the point, but I enjoyed this very much. Highly recommended! I think I had never read it until now because I thought it would be like Robinson Crusoe, which is rambling and...

That took some doing. I had to re-listen to the last CD three times because my mind kept wandering. I'm glad that's the last audio book I had to get through. The story itself is interesting, but despite my love of Johnny Depp type pirates (you know what I mean!), I think I might have enjoyed it more...

I am happy to say that I have finally finished one book towards completing the Classics Challenge! I've had this one sitting on my shelves for awhile, and the challenge was the perfect nudge I needed to finally read it. I won't say too much about it, after all it's a Classic and has earned its spot ...
