So I am not going to totally rip this. But it is something I am not going to spend any more time on. I never got into this. I am about 50% of the way and couldn't care less about the characters or the plot. I thought the premise would be strong enough to hold me but it never even got me going. ...

This is a really strong start to the series, the world is set up easily and the story is fast-paced with our main character, Tally, denied the 'pretty' surgery until she goes and fetches her friend Shay from outside the city. There's a lot of dilemmas in this that are a more dramatic version of what...

Super dystopie, si au départ le titre me rebutait un peu et que le début du livre ne me plaisait pas des masses, la suite s'est révélée vraiment géniale. Un univers intéressant, des personnages assez bien creusés, bref une série à découvrir :)

Everybody gets to be supermodel gorgeous. What could be wrong with that? Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can't wait. Not for her license - for turning pretty. In Tally's world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive prett...

This is definitely written for a younger audience than me, but I really enjoyed it. When the people from the smoke left all their shoes, I teared up. And wow at the ending. I'm definitely going to continue. 4.4 stars

I'm really not sure where the author was going with this book. Sometime in the future, in a post-apocalyptic dystopian world, thanks to government/societal mandate, children grow up, hit a birthday and are shipped off to have mandatory radical plastic surgery so that everyone can be a "pretty." Ap...

It's a gripping world Scott Westerfeld has created, one that you can clearly see as a possible outcome of our future. I don't read many YA novels, I didn't read many YA novels when my age fell into that category, but completing Uglies after a day of marathon reading made me wish I had the next in th...

UGLIES When everyone turns sixteen they change from ugly to pretty by means of advanced surgery. These new pretties are shallow and party all the time in New Pretty Town. Tally is almost sixteen and can’t wait until it’s finally her turn to be pretty. Tally’s best friend turned before her and no...

I feel like my IQ just dropped several points. Why did people rave about this series? The entire premise was dumb. To control people, why wait until they're 16? Why not just do it from birth and save yourself some trouble? Not to mention Tally is a brat to the nth degree. I couldn't stand her the ...
