This is the first book in a series featuring Boston Private Investigators Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro; the film Gone Baby Gone is based on a later entry in the series. It's also the first book by Lehane I've ever read, and certainly won't be the last. First thing I noticed, then forgot to noti...

Quite readable story about murder, gangland killings, and a pair of detectives who are interesting people with lives!

I didn't much care for this book. The main character, Patrick Kenzie, is an asshole, and it's not clear that his partner, Angela, is much better. The story moves along ok, but the author is given to cheap, cynical commentary, perhaps as a way to pretend he has an intellect. Personally, I find his co...

This book makes me feel really sheltered, and grateful for it!Their world is very dark, violent and dangerous.

Wow, what an outstanding, 5 Star first look at Dennis Lahane! Two P.I's, Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, are hired for a simple "find-and-a-phone-call", locate the admin assistant of a state senator who absconded with some "documents". Well, the story gets a little out of hand with some major gun...

Perfectly serviceable hard-boiled crime fiction, with a nice sense of noir phrasing. Not so much a mystery as a slow burn through inevitable violence. But the writing was good, the characters engaging, the city bleak and realistic, and the book grapples with, but does not try to solve, issues around...

A noir touch, complete with nifty madcap dialogue and a dark sense of humor makes this a fun detective tale. It begins when two politicians come to PI Patrick Kenzie and employ him and partner Angela Gennaro to retrieve some documents purloined by a cleaning woman. What follows is a large scale gang...
