I'm torn on what to rate this book. If I was to rate it based purely on its anti-slavery message, it'd be a 5 star book. If I was to rate it on story, maybe 3 stars. Characters would be a 4. Writing quality would be a 2. And tangential preaching would be a 1. But all of that combined... I'm not sure...
Uncle Tom’s Cabin was first published in 1851 in an abolitionist periodical in response to the second Fugitive Slave act which made it illegal to aide runaway slaves. It is a very powerful novel and must have been incredibly influential during its day.Stowe wrote with a furious passion, putting every...

I understand the significance of this book, which is fully five stars, but I have to balance that against the pleasure of reading it, which is, at best one star.
Heard of this book last night in "The Abolitionists" so it peeked my curiosity to read it. I didn't know it had such a effect in the start of the Civil War!
