This one barely got a 3, you where just plunged in and had no feelings towards anyone as things start rolling. In the first chapter alone she gets in a fight protecting her lesbian friend and because of it gets kicked off the lacrosse team and she finds her boyfriend sleeping with her mom. All in th...

My first encounter with faeries in YA was with Aprilynn Pike's Wings ... and that didn't go all too well. But then there were The Replacement and Wicked Lovely and... well...I shan't look at Tinkerbell the same way again.I read the Spiderwick Chronicles when I was in middle school and fell in love (...

Valiant, the second book from Holly Black’s “Modern Faerie Tales” series, starts of after Roiben, from Tithe, became King of the Unseelie Court. But the story isn’t about the characters from Tithe; it opens us to the life of Valerie, a human who basically falls in love with a faerie – a troll to be ...

I had a chance to interview Holly back in November, 2010. I'd always heard she was a great writer and I'm a longtime fan of her writing partner, Cassandra Clare, so I decided to give her a try. I understand the author needing something in Val's life that would cause her to flee to the city, but that ...

While oddly fascinating and, at times, truly beautiful,I just can't seem to connect with this world or its characters..PS.I liked this one better, so it's more like 3.5 stars.Again,it's not really a rating of the book, rather my reaction to it.Subjective, that is.Also, best closing line *ever*. Seriousl...

After reading many of the reviews here, I was worried I would not enjoy this story, but since I already bought it, I decided to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised. The story tells of high school student, Val, who ends up living with a small group of homeless kids in NYC. The group has dealing w...

Not so valiant of an effort In Valiant: A Modern Tale of Faerie, the follow-up to Holly Black's Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale, the reader is taken to a different realm of Faerie, deep in the boroughs of New York City. After high school student Val catches her mother in an act of betrayal, she runs aw...
