The world-building in this novel is good for a first novel. I also liked that the protagonist is a different kind of witch, i.e., she raises shades from dead bodies so she can solve murders. The whole part about raising one so it could give her testimony in court was fabulous and tastefully done. ...

DNF at 82%And it starts...I really didn't want to start so soon DNFinishing books, but I'm really not into anything in this story, and if I keep this up, it will be 2017 all over again; with me wasting time on books I'm not enjoying. The worst part about this, is that when I started reading it... I t...

Series: Alex Craft #1 I don’t remember what brought this book to my attention. It was probably something to do with one of the later books in the series. I know better than to expect too much from a book marketed as urban fantasy, but the library had a copy, so I figured it was worth a shot. I’d ...

I real all three of these years ago and really enjoyed them. No weres or vampires, but plenty of fae and witches and soul collectors. 3.5 - 4 starsFun read, but I felt let down by the rushed ending. Alex's magic is creepy and fascinating, and gives new meaning to "I see dead people." Not sure I'd want to be able to do that. Here's hoping she has better luck with both her finances and her car in the next installment.

Alex Craft is a grave witch, meaning she deals with the dead. She has turned her talent into a career and reluctantly works along side Detective Falin Andrews. When she is attacked and a dark magic spell threatens her life, she realizes she is somehow connected to the case.I am really glad I picked ...

My friend recommended this to me in the spring and few weeks ago I needed something to read and found this from my library. So. Okayish, did like, will probably read the sequel at some point. Original magic system, liked the heroine.

I enjoyed this read. Alex Craft is a complex character. She raises shades, the echoes of those who are dead, is on good terms with Death himself and her family life is best described as complicated. When a shade attacks her, and there's another attempt on her life, she has to step up and do somet...
