What to say about this novel? Besides the fact that everyone should read it?Based on a true story (more than one), this novel relates the work of an African-American reporter who is able to pass as white, allowing him to go undercover at lynchings. Johnson deals deftly with the issue. What moves the...
I have to admit that I wasn't sure this would be a hit for me - the murder mystery is not always my cup of tea. But reading the author's introduction, detailing his life as a "black boy who could pass for white", and learning how much that influenced the writing of this novel, I was intrigued. And t...
I liked the storyline but was bothered by the use of gay and Hispanic slurs. I think my favorite character, actually, was Merle the biker vampire. I just liked his straightforward, no BS personality, wished he had had a bigger role in the story. A solid 3 star fun read with some great comedic moment...
What I truly enjoyed about this book was how the illustrator managed to erase all that divided the characters. The book is in black and white and all of the characters were rendered in the same manner such that the reader cannot tell the ethnicity of the characters except for the text telling them.

Life Sucks is a graphic novel that sells itself as a possibly interesting take on another vampire tale of darkness. This story is all about removing vampire lore from its classic romanism and into some form of reality where you need to pay rent and stuff. All of the elements here are very workable c...

Then one day he gets super-strength.This could easily have been the usual origin story we see for superheroes. But instead, Puckett gives us something far more nuanced. Tom's disabil...
