I knew very little about this book going in. I kept seeing it pop up all over the place and I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about. Here’s what I knew, or thought I knew, before I started reading:1. This book is about a circus and some guy that may or may not give elephants water.2. Th...

Maybe I was just not in a good reading mood, but this wasn't as gripping as it's hyped up to be. This novel was easy to start because it catches your attention from the start. I must admit that the shift between past and present was unwelcome at times, but somehow it was interesting to have two Jacobs narrenting their lives: the young and the old; the same person but two different stories.

For your own enjoyment, do not read the first 3 or 4 pages. No lie, it's the climax of the entire book. Why...

Water For Elephants is a page turner about Jacob Jankowski, who, at 90 (or 93), reflects back on the time he jumped a train and inadvertently joined a travelling circus.

In the beginning of Water For Elephants Jacob Jankowski tells us that he is ninety or ninety-three. One or the other. He's not really sure anymore? His body betrayed him years ago and Jacob now fears that his mind isn’t far behind. Shuffling along miserably behind his walker, he’s living out his fin...

Jacob is 90 years old when we first meet him at a nursing home--or maybe 93. He can't remember. But he can tell us he was 23 in 1931, when days within graduating from Veterinary school he's orphaned and walks away from his final exams. He joins a traveling circus and is hired to take care of a menag...
