Absolutely loved this book! It's a wonderful fantasy for all ages, and it is populated with characters that you quickly come to care for. One of my favorite reads of the year!

Very sweet book for children. It has many similarities to "The Wizard of Oz" and will probably attract much the same audience. Newbery Honor this year. I can definitely see why–Lin takes Chinese folk tales and weaves them together into something which is new and fresh, but which also feels authentic. This would be great for slightly younger readers, or anyone who enjoys traditional stories. [Feb. 2010]

For a lot of this I thought I was going to give it 4 stars but then when everything came together at the end I may have gotten a little teary and as we all know that is the bar for 5 stars. Super sweet, loved it.
