Loved this story. A heart wrenching experience, changes a woman's life, and ripples to her children as well. If you enjoy a story about surviving emotional strife, and how people reach out to each other, then this story will touch you too.

I found this book very depressing and difficult to read (emotionally), but it opened my eyes to a glimpse at Leningrad during WWII. I don't think I really knew about any of that. I had a tough time liking any of the characters at the beginning of the story, but that slowly changed as the story unr...

So, I'm writing this review with slightly swollen eyes... Yes, I've shed lots of tears for this story - in fact, I came very close to sobbing out loud...Just after the first chapter, I really wasn't sure if I was in the mood to read this type of story. A fascinating tale about relationships and courage. Made me want to find more books by this author to add to my reading list.

Rarely can a book move me to tears. This one did, more than once. Maybe when I can settle my mind from this powerful read, I will be able to do a proper review. For now, I would just like to recommend this to all my GR friends.

This book is such raw emotions every part of the story broke my heart. It also was a coming to Jesus moment that parents are not perfect and have histories of their own. If I could have given this book more than 5 stars, easily would happen. Hands down, needs to be made into a movie!

I had a hard time liking any of the characters in this book. It wasn't until the story inside this story starts getting revealed that I really was pulled into it. In the beginning I disliked every character, but by the end the author did such a good job with the story I was able to feel something fo...
