Celtic Princess Ceridwen of Iceni has doubts about her upcoming marriage to Donogh and her future as queen. Then she meets the dashing Marek, an Egyptian serving as an officer with the Roman 14th Legion. From vastly different cultures, Ceridwen and Marek share the same beliefs and discover they are uniquely able to meet each other's darkest desires. A perfect match, they plan for a life together once Marek finishes his army service. But political change has suddenly put them in opposition. When Roman Emperor Claudius is assassinated and replaced by Nero, the new emperor declares Iceni a Roman province. Iceni Queen Boudica, brutalized by Roman soldiers when she resists the takeover, goes to war and annihilates the Roman Ninth Legion, razing the Roman city of Londinium and killing its 70,000 inhabitants. All that stands in the way of finally driving the Romans out of Britannia is Marek and his overwhelmingly outnumbered troops.Author Bio: Ronald L. Haines finds the study of ancient peoples fascinating and he believes that "people are really no different now than they were 2,000 years ago in terms of motivations." He has a keen interest in first century and Dark Ages history. Haines is now working on his next book, Lamb of the Lion, set in the same time period, but in Judea. Raised in Nottingham, England, Haines now lives in Sagamore Hills, Ohio, where he and his wife own an insurance brokerage.
