Nightcrawler and Storm successfully convince the Shi'ar to let the X-Men handle the Phoenix. As the X-Men battle the Phoenix pointlessly, Emma realizes that the best way is to take the Phoenix in herself. So she merges with the Phoenix and the rest of the X-Men pushes her into the chamber. she was inside with Cyclops and thouhgt this was a better way to get closer to him and touch him with his visor off his eyes. Emma starts to lose control and turns into Dark Phoenix.
