My enjoyment of the Flight antholigies is purely shallow: they're pretty. The writing varies wildly, as you get in a collection. But it's pretty to look at, and that, I think, is the point.

Oh my. I think I’m developing a bit of an ‘author crush’ on Miss DiCamillo. This book was just positively charming. Much like The Tale of Despereaux, this book feels very much like an old fairy tale. Though the book is a fantasy story, DiCamillo tells it in such a way that you really feel like it co...

2.5 - 3Another enjoyable installment in LaFever's Theodosia Throckmorton series, this time taking place in Egypt and with a cast of mostly new characters. 3.5 It is a lovely story, with the feel of the classic fable - I would highly recommend it as a read-aloud or along-with for ages six and up, although I highly enjoyed it on its own. It is a story of magic and love and hope and dreams.

While there wasn't anything technically wrong with these books, and I kept feeling like I _should_ like them, they never came alive.

Ahh. That was extremely satisfying. A nice feel for London in the Late Victorian. Theodosia is a marvelous character, taking a very studious and practical attitude towards magic when dealing with the ancient Egyptian artifacts in the museum her father runs. Whenever he stays overnight working on...
