You Act So White jumps head first into the life of Gabriela Fierro, a high school senior who is on the verge of either getting jumped by a group of irritating chola wannabes or beating the crap out of her high-strung possibly racist friend. The only thing Gabriela hates more than her best friend Ally calling her a "wetback" is being called a "white girl" by her nemesis—Reyna, a girl who has mastered the art of penciling in thin eyebrows with a Sharpie. You’d think Gabby would have it made her senior year . . . with her smokin’ hot boyfriend, an acceptance letter to a prestigious university, and parents so cool they went to protests in college. But run-ins with the vile Reyna seem unavoidable—crap talking at parties, a near shanking by miniature nail file in the bathroom, getting knocked out by soccer balls during PE.
