I read this book purely because I'd seen so many references that The Hunger Games was a Battle Royale ripoff. Given that the whole idea of sending a "tribute" of youngsters to fight each other, or some monster, until there's only one survivor goes back to at least the Greeks, and that there's nothi...

I am impressed, really impressed. Forty three characters (forty two students plus one instructor) and all of them different and exquisitely well portrayed. Every character and their various conducts in such an extreme situation were totally convincing. I was completely immersed in the story right af...

I couldn’t find this as an e-book anywhere, so I had to go in to a bookstore and purchase the physical book, gasp! And this book was huge – around 600 pages! Whilst reading Battle Royale, you go on an intense journey into the minds of nearly all 42 students and discover what it i...

Although I enjoyed the premise of the book and the last 1/3rd of the book, i think my issue was with the translation of the book. Some of the reading was choppy in parts and never seemed to recover.

Started off so well. Definitely a lot more disturbing than the Hunger Games was, though I can definitely see a lot of similarities between the two. Too many characters and too much focus on their crushes. Quite a disappointing ending too, in my opinion.

I decided to tackle this before Hunger Games. Glad I did. Gory, yes. A bit over the top, yes. Now I want to see the movie. Let me say this, beyond the blood and guts, there is a deeper aspect to this story. Its about government, society, etc. We should all pay attention to.

3.5 really. The plot was interesting, and despite what you might have heard, quite a bit different from that of the Hunger Games. It loses a star due to poor characterization/pop psychology. I don't know if the awkwardness of some of the dialogue or the inner monologues of some of the characters had ...
