Gently investigates a small town jazz scene. A great deal of talk in "jazz language", a kind of clash of cultures take. Really irritating to read.

The strongest of these I've read so far. Still not in re-read territory, but I kept being drawn back to the story, wanting to see how it ended, even though I'd guessed at the answer to the mystery.

There's an author foreword to this book pointing out that this isn't a story about figuring out who did it (because that's clear early on) but about proving he did it.
