I was thinking about how to classify this book, and the closest I could come was magical realism, a bit like David Almond’s Clay. It’s subtle and freaky and fantastic. The three main characters could so easily have tipped into either unlikeability or sentimentality, but they did neither. [May 2011]

A big hulk of a guy… that’s Brewster. The others characters are just as… unique. There are Tennyson and Bronte, so named given their parents’ professions as literature professors. I found all of them, as I said, unique… and their story engaging. Neal Shusterman can do no wrong in my eyes, so, yes, y...

With all the sadness and pain we go through in life it would be a dream come true to have it all just go away. But you know what they say, “be careful what you wish for”. Fraternal twins Tennyson and Bronte soon find that out when Tennyson becomes Bruiser’s friend and Bronte start to date him. Bru...

GAHHH. GAHH. THIS BOOK IS GORGEOUSSS. I WANT TO EAT IT. I LOVE IT TO SHREDS. Seriously, I don't think Neal Shusterman's genius will ever fail to amaze me. He is too awesome for words. It's not fair. Well, okay––Unwind is still my favorite. Everlost and Everwild are pretty hard to beat, too. But Brui...

This is the third book I've read by Neal Shusterman. Unwind is still my favorite. What can I say about this book.... I liked the story in a whole. I see what he was saying, but it just didn't read/Flow that great for me. It seemed choppy (there are 4 narrators) and It didn't bring out any emotional ...

It's rare that a YA novel spends as much time talking about parents as about, say, school. On one level this is a straightforward story about two highschool kids whose parent's marriage is falling apart. Plotwise, there's a supernatural romance, but the romantic relationships aren't very believabl...

Let's just start off by saying that I cried. Yes, cried. I've never cried in a book before, I've teared up yes, but have never had tears rolling down my face, my nose running, my vision so blurry I had to stop reading and get a stack of paper towels because I couldn't see the words behind my teary e...

Brewster “Bruiser” Rawlins is a loner. He was voted “Most Likely to Go to Jail” and isn’t someone people take the time to get to know. Tennyson, a well-liked, popular guy is just like everyone else and doesn’t really give Bruiser much thought – until his sister, Bronte, starts dating him. Bronte ...

The gripping story of a teenage boy with a cursed gift told from four POVs. Resads like a realistic YA novel despite the paranormal element. Unqiue, compelling, and moving story. One of the best 2010 YA novels I've read so far.
