This was an enjoyable, light read. I like Louise Penny's Gamache series, and this one is slightly darker than some of the others I've read. But the intrigue keeps up to the end, and the setting in rural Quebec is always nice. Makes me wish I lived in a rural village myself.

I am torn because I really liked this (and it may have been my favorite of the series, despite a drop in the number of delicious food descriptions) BUT as I think about it more, I really only liked the very satisfying last few pages. It begins shortly after The Beautiful Mystery ended, and things are just as grim as you would imagine for Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. His longtime enemi...

3,5 rounded to 4.I REALLY wanted this to be a five stars book. But there are some issues I can't overlook:How did he get down? (Such a big deal made of him climbing up.)Jerome--uh, why didn't he tell? The timeline doesn't work--the length of time since the dam plot, the length of time Arnot is impri...
