MY REVIEW

 

The Prologue for All Things Slip Away filled me in on the highlights of the Spookie Town Murder Mystery Series Book I, Scaps of Paper, and thank goodness. It has been a while since I read it, so I needed a refresher. You could begin reading here, but I am loving this series so much, I would highly recommend beginning at the beginning.

 

NOW…it’s ten years later and Frank Lester, a Chicago Homicide detective that moved to Spooky town, has found the serial killer he thought he had taken out is back, and he is on the hunt…for revenge.

 

I read a lot of Young Adult novels, so it is refreshing to be meeting some older characters that carry baggage and memories, and lust does not override their emotions. The romance is a slow burn, but smolders throughout the pages.

 

There is so much more to the killer than meets the eye. He has his own issues and problems that he cannot overcome. He is driven to seek revenge. The villain is one of those bad guys that can evoke a moment of sympathy for him.

 

Abigail is Frank’s love interest, but he is not alone in his desire to date her.The sheriff has his eye on her too. Myrtle is a neighbor and she is quite the character. She gave me some laughs and I love some humor with my murder. My heart went out to Laura and Nick, and the rest of their family, two children whose mother is ill and they struggle to even feed themselves. The two kids broke my heart, yet put a smile on my face.

 

The suspense is ramping up as the pacing takes me to the next event and I am eager, yet apprehensive about HIS and Frank’s next meeting.

 

Kathryn Meyer Griffith’s has an ability to draw me into the story so deep that I feel like I am walking in Abigail’s shoes, being stalked, feeling like someone is following me, watching me, having me looking over my shoulder, ‘hiding out’, keeping low.

 

I love that Kathryn can stretch the story, all the while keeping me on edge. It has been months since HE has been seen…life goes on…but, we all know it isn’t over. The tension builds as I wait, wait for the explosion that is about to come.

 

Well, I guess you can tell how much I loved All Things Slip Away. The story is fabulous and kept me totally engrossed, the characters came to life on the pages through Kathryn’s words and I fell in love with them. The peripheral characters became just as important to me as the main ones. The mystery, yeah, we know who he is, sorta but that does not take away anything from the story.

 

I highly recommend any of her work. Kathryn has never disappointed me.

How to Steal a Thief by A.J. Sherwood

So I LOVE AJ Sherwood's books. To date she hasn't written a book I don't like and this one is no exception.

Ivan... oh Ivan. In this second installment of The Unholy Trifecta we get to learn more about Ivan while getting to revisit Ari, Carter, Remi and Kyou. It's yet another fun filled romp but with a touch more mayhem this time around - I mean, it's _Ivan's_ book after all. That man is a fun-filled lollipop triple dipped in chaos.

In this book Ivan is bored so he takes a job which is boring just to alleviate the boredom. Until it's not boring at all. Steal a stamp. That was the job. Break into an apartment and steal a stamp. But the apartment he broke into belonged to med student Aiden Stalworth who'd already had almost everything - including the stamp - stolen from him by his greedy uncle despite him being the one who was supposed to inherit it. Cue Ivan's Robin Hood complex.

But then the criminal world starts showing up in New Orleans, all after the same stamp and now Ivan and his team are protecting Aiden from some really bad dudes while running a scam to get Aiden's inheritance back from his greedy uncle and somewhere along the way Ivan falls hard for Aiden - and Aiden falls right back.

This book was a fun filled romp of crazy men, nasty relations and Remi being adorably bad-ass. Also, her tee-shirt fu is _on point_. Just sayin'.

Killer Bond by Jocelynn Drake

OMG what is NOT to love about another Ward Security Book by Jocelynn Drake and Rinda Elliott.

To say that I absolutely adore the world that they have created would be an understatement. Every single book is well thought out, well researched, has an amazing plot that sucks you in and lots of explosions. There are always explosions in a Drake and Elliot book. They like to make things go boom. Although... nothing went boom 'on screen' in this book. It was a bit of surprise, that.

Daniel Hendricks, Ward Security's mild-mannered, fish-out-of-water accountant has finally drummed up the hutzpah to take a vacation outside of the continental USA. That's how boring he is, going to Bermuda is a BIG adventure for him. Sun, sand, margaritas and - woah - a super hot guy to have a vacation fling with. Who knows, maybe this stepping out of his comfort zone will be good for him.

Edward Raines is a CIA agent sent to Bermuda to hunt down and kill a traitor before he can sell national top security secrets to the highest bidder. By any means necessary. So why does his target not seem like a cold blooded secret seller? In fact Daniel is hot, sweet, and the physical connection they have is off the charts!

But Daniel is not a traitor, he's an accountant from Cincinnati, and the case of mistaken identity has put him directly in the cross hairs of some very very bad people while the powers that be in the CIA is intent on using him to flush the traitors out, whether he wants to or not. Thrust into a James Bond like world of exotic locations, car chases, shoot outs and espionage, Daniel has to reconcile the man he thought he was having a vacation romance with to the person that Edward really is. He can either accept the incendiary attraction between them, thereby forgiving Edward of his duplicity, or not trust the man trying to keep him alive and get him back home to Ward Security. Tough choice.

And if he does give in to his feelings for Edward, what happens when their 'mission' is over and Daniel goes back to crunching numbers while Edward disappears into the shadows once more?
