Yoga for Diabetes

 

The condition when the human body’s ability to produce blood glucose or blood sugar is imparted is known as Diabetes. There are many three types of Diabetes. They are Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, and Gestational diabetes.  Where Type 1 diabetes occurs when the human body is not producing insulin, while in Type 2 diabetes body’s cells are not responding to insulin in an effective manner. Gestational diabetes occurs in the women during the stage of pregnancy where the body of a woman becomes less sensitive to insulin. However, this type of diabetes resolve after giving birth.

Postures and breathing exercises of Yoga are effective in fighting from diabetes. Yoga helps in stimulating and targeting the working of the pancreas, thus improves the flow of blood to the pancreas. Yoga postures which are beneficial in diabetes overhaul the cells of the body organ and enhances the production of insulin in the body. Some of the yoga poses which is effective for the patient suffering from diabetes are:-

Padangusthansana or Head to Toe Pose : This is known as the Therapeutic for Diabetes. A person who is suffering from diabetes can opt for the regular practice of this asana to control the disease safely and naturally. The regulation of the symptoms of diabetes can be overcome through the daily practice of Padangusthansana. This poses helps in reducing hypertension and mental illness which can be a major cause for an increase in diabetes. Also, head to toe pose can give relief in stress which is a major cause of diabetes.

Paschimottanasana or Seated forward bend: This is a very effective yoga asana to keep your mind calm and stress-free. It also helps in stimulating liver & kidney functions, digestion, and reduces obesity. Paschimottanasana is also known as the positive Asana for controlling diabetes.

Ardha-matsyendrasana or Spinal Twist: This is very useful in maintaining the good functioning of the intestine, liver, pancreas, spleen, bladder, and other abdominal organs. Thus, it is one of the beneficial asanas for a person suffering from diabetes.

Supta Vajrasana or Sitting Pose of firmness: This pose helps in lowering the high blood sugar levels in the body and stimulates the function of pancreas. Thus it is an excellent yoga posture for a diabetic person.

Dhanurasana or bow pose: This asana is known for improving the working of intestines and pancreas, therefore becoming an effective yoga pose for controlling diabetes. The regular practice of Dhanurasana fully energizes the Pancreas. Thus controlling the blood sugar level inside our body.

Bhujangasana or Cobra Pose: This pose is the best beginning yoga for diabetes patients which is specially designed to focus the stimulation of the pancreas. This asana improves the flowing of blood to the pancreas and helps in overhauling the cells of the organs. Thus it improves its capability to produce insulin in the body which is very beneficial for controlling diabetes.

Sarvangasana or Shoulder Stand: Sarvangasana helps in stimulating parathyroid glands and thyroids which is solely responsible for fat, carbohydrate, and protein metabolism. This yogic poses is good for mild depression and helps in calming down the mind and thus beneficial for diabetics patients.

Halasana or Plough Pose: This yoga asana is very much beneficial in regulating the function of abdominal organs, activates digestion, and also influences the working of the thyroid to stabilize metabolism. This is very useful in case of diabetes.

Shalabhasana or Grasshopper Pose : This pose is very beneficial for blood sugar level control. This pose helps in stimulating the internal organs and regulates the acid-base balance of the body.

Chakrasana or Wheel Pose: This yoga posture helps in the functioning of intestines and pancreas, thus in turns controls the level of blood sugar inside our body. Regular practice of this asana activates the function of organs like pancreas, liver, and other enzyme producing organs.

Mudra or Yogic Symbol Pose: Yoga Mudras are very effective in curing diabetes. For a diabetic patient, there are five prominent types of Yoga Mudra that are beneficial for the person suffering from the problem of diabetes. They are:-

(a) Surya Mudra : This yoga asana helps in the flow of energy inside our body. Surya Mudra helps in generating heat inside the body thus accelerating the fire element in the body.  This type of Yoga Mudra improves the metabolism of the body and inturns very effecting in fighting with diabetes.

(b) Pran mudra : Pran is known as the vital force which helps in living. Pran Mudra along with the Apan Mudra is one of the beneficial yoga gesture that helps in fighting from diabetes.

(c)  Linga mudra : This Yoga Mudra helps in reducing obesity which is a major cause of diabetes. This Mudra thus maintains your fitness and thus help in balancing the blood sugar level.

(d) Gyan mudra : This Yoga Mudra helps in reducing the anxiety and stress level which is also a major cause of diabetes.

(e) Apan Mudra : One of the simplest forms of Yoga Mudra, Apan Mudra helps in lowering the blood sugar level in the body by detoxifying it.
