I don't often give up on a book, and I have never found the first forty or so pages of a book so interesting and fun to then, forty more pages on or so, give up. Once the main character was established, the novel becomes a series of repetitions upon a similar theme. Maybe the author wished him to be...

A Confederacy of Dunces has been on my radar forever, as those who love it state it is one of their favorite novels of all time. Now that I have finished it, I can see why people love it. Ignatius and his mother, Miss Trixie and the Levys, Patrolman Mancuso and the entire cast of characters are so i...

I got it. I got the humor, I got what the author was trying to say. I just didn't like it. I appreciate the writing and the cleverness that made this a Pulitzer Prize winner. After reading the first few chapters and promptly returning it to the library, I am glad the movie hasn't happened. The main character is unsufferably obnoxious! ...

I don't really get why people like this book so much.

One of the funniest books I have ever read and certainly the greatest of all New Orleans novels. The humor is a little overshadowed by the tragic story of the author, but try to set that aside and enjoy the book for its own merits.

This was the most unpleasant book I've ever read that I think I might really like.

This is one of those books that, while heralded as a work of genius by so many, left me utterly cold.
