I tried to read this. I really did. Especially considering that I live in Louisiana. But I couldn't concentrate on it, couldn't follow it. Maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind, but the protagonist just made me want to slap him, which didn't contribute to enjoyment.

what do you mean by "technical issues"? are you talking about typos or grammar needing proofreading/correction? or are you talking about the actual writing ability of the author?
I'd had this on my shelves for years because a friend recommended it. Finally read and loved it. It is tragic that the author was not longer alive when it was published. Would have loved to read more by him.
