For the past sixty years or so the period of the High Kings who reigned for approximately 150 years after the end of the Roman Empire in Britain has been dismissed by historians as fiction because conventional wisdom was wedded to the idea of a large-scale Saxon migration or invasion which pushed the Britons from east to west. Recent archaeology has uncovered no evidence of this invasion - in fact it shows that the Saxons were confined to the margins for most of this period subsisting in the poorest coastal areas of Eastern and Southern England as refugees from the turmoil of northern Europe.
What do we know about them? Quite a lot it turns out and what a fascinating story it is. Whether you are an Arthurian enthusiast or just interested in what makes Britons tick, you will love this.
