3.5 starsThose interested in reading this book must be warned that it is a rather hefty tome in both size and breadth and therefore should be nibbled on over a period of days or weeks. This is not to say I did not enjoy the book, I did, it is just not one that I feel should be consumed in multiple s...

Bill Bryson is excellent as always. Great stories, very engaging, witty but also quite informative. It's a book of nice compilation - it brings both knowledge and humor - information and entertainment. A kind of 'infotainment' on paper so to speak :)

Really excellent. It's a LOT of science, and honestly I'm not sure how much really will stick with me, but I'd be interested in re-reading it again in about a year. It's basically a scientific survey of the history of the universe, but whether he's writing about plate tectonics, extinction-level eve...

I'm a Bill Bryson fan but this is my favorite of his as I'm interested in almost all things science (I'll admit - I don't like space stuff; it bores me). However, Bryson does do a fantastic job of helping make a variety of compli...

"Best survey of science book out there"After listening to this book, you will feel like a scientist and think of yourself as understanding our place in the universe like a true intellectual. Bryson just knows how to explain difficult concepts across all of the science disciplines. This is a great fi...

My boyfriend, a physics major and aspiring teacher, convinced me to read this book. I was surprised how much I loved it. It made me realise how shockingly little I know about the world around me (and how shockingly little even scientists know about the world around us). Bryson is a fantastic narrato...

I think I've been extremely lucky with book picks lately. My last few were all five stars. Of course that could mean that I'm a push over and not a critical reader at all, but I like to think otherwise. With that in mind I tried very hard to find something - anything really - to fault Bryson with as...
