A book on the history of modern science written with great style. I enjoyed the personality sketches of the scientists involved. The research for this book must have been a substantial undertaking.

I was never the most enthusiastic student of science, and gave it up as soon as it was no longer mandatory in school to study more languages and literature instead. I love Bill Bryson's books. They are among the very rare books that make me laugh outloud...in public! OK...so l-o-n-g parts of A Short History...are 2 stars...and much is 5. Great book and entertainingly educational.

How did life begin, How did the universe begin, what are we made of, are only a few of the ques...

Read on the recommendation of the Head of English at my school, and certainly not regretted. The kind of book you want to read bits of out loud to anyone who will listen. Bill Bryson has a lovely way with words.
