This volume follows two stories: one written by Scott Snyder and one written by legendary horror writer Stephen King. In Snyder's story set in 1920s LA, we follow Pearl, a young woman who is turned into a vampire and sets out on a path of righteous revenge against the European vampires who tortured and abused her. This story is paired with King's story, a western about Skinner Sweet, the original American Vampire—a stronger, faster creature than any vampire ever seen before.

2.5 American Vampire, Vol. 1 (American Vampire #1) by Scott Snyder, Stephen King, Rafael Albuquerque (Illustrator)
The first volume of this story moves between the 1880's and the 1920's. It begins in the twenties with the story of Pearl, a young aspiring actress living in Los Angeles. In between picking up bit parts in movies, Pearl works several odd jobs to make her rent. When she gets a big break - an invita...

Well, mission accomplished. Mostly. The story opens in 1925 with Pearl Jones, a wannabe actress who works three jobs an...

3.5 American Vampire - Volume 1 [Review]
This was recommended to me by Youngest Sis. She reads tons of graphic novels and has offered lots of great suggestions. This is one of those series that I feel will get better over time. The story takes place in the 1920s and in the 1880s. I must say that the 1920s portion was much more interestin...

3.0 American Vampire, Vol. 1
Fast, stylish, very nice art, but I lost (or stopped caring about) the plot halfway through. And my tolerance for gore was pushed to the limit here.
