Great follow-up to Persepolis, as Marjane spends time in Europe and returns to Iran. Emotional and moving, I felt for her struggles as complemented by her graphic art style.

I love this book! Very sweet story about family, for adults. His artwork is beautiful as well. I enjoyed the story of the cat and the story of the daughter's marriage. Joann Sfar got himself introduced to a wider audience of graphic novel readers through this book and he deserves to be well-known.

This didn't hold me the way Satrapi's other work has, but I may need to read it again. This is another Persian family narrative, but with a male protagonist and focus. It has the feel of a family story that has been burnished by association with mystical explanations.

Didn't move me the way the first part did. I couldn't exactly relate to Marji and her problems. On one hand she grew up into a liberal, headstrong, take-no-shit-from-others kind of woman, while on the other she was insensitive enough to get an innocent man arrested just to protect herself from being...

A fantastically irreverent, provocative, charming, compassionate examination of the contradictions of religious thought, culture, and social structures, from within Judaism. In a very Jewish tone, it strikes the perfect balance of amusing chiding and deep love. It lays bare multiple hypocrisies whil...

Not in the end as good as the first one, although this is not Satrapi's fault. The first story had more of a narrative arc, whereas the narrative structure of the second is not so satisfying, but because this is autobiography it is hardly a structural defect that could have been corrected. It is i...

My advice? You are better off read her famous work, Persepolis.

Hmm...which shelf to file this on? Between this and The Proof of the Honey, I need only one more book before I add a "Arab-not-quite-erotica" shelf. This isn't erotica, of course. There's nothing even remotely erotic about older Iranian women sitting around laughing about being married off as teena...

Embroideries, I think. Maybe they just talk embroidery while discussing other things, I think. Cause that would be me. Nope, this is all about the sex livexs and complications of the lives of Iranian women and their different experiences of sex, marriage and love in Iran. This is not a continuation o...
