Ani's Book Abyss
I'm reading Coraline for my YA Horror square and confirmed that it would work. (ISBN: 9780739482001). I guess this book also works for Magical Realism as well, judging from what I remember of the movie. I've also seen The Monstrumologist (ISBN: 9781606867570) suggested as a good one for YA Horror, and in fact it was my backup pick in case Coraline didn't work.

But I don't know much about YA Horror either. O.o
Murder by Death
Added, thanks!
Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
Oscar Wilde: "The Canterville Ghost" (ISBN 13: 9780744549515; ISBN 10: 0744549515)
Murder by Death
Added. :)
Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
Thank you! :)
Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
Robert Arthur: "The Mystery of the Whispering Mummy" (ISBN 10: 0394864034; ISBN 13: 9780394864037) and "The Mystery of the Green Ghost" (ISBN 10: 0394864042; ISBN 13: 9780394864044) (both Three Investigators series) -- both also for "Ghost Stories and Haunted Houses"
Murder by Death
Got 'em! :)
Books, hockey, and a bucketful of snark
I'm reading The Midwich Cuckoos for this one. It's by John Wyndham and has been filmed twice as The Village of the Damned. The children in this one are evil little alien gits bent on the destruction of the human race.
Tannat
It's a good choice. :)

Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
Otfried Preussler - "Krabat"
Murder by Death
Added - although I could only find one edition with the generic cover. :[
Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
Thank you! I don't mind the cover, but if you do want to use one with a nicer cover, I'd suggest ISBN 9783522144100.
Murder by Death
I hate those generic covers - so I updated to your edition. Much better now. :)
Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
Good! And it does look nicer now of course. Just didn't want you to feel like you *had* to go back and redo it -- the database is what it is, and by God, you've done enough on these lists as it is already ...
Murder by Death
I'm going to figure out how this database works one of these days. It generally displays the main edition of any tied together titles, and if they aren't tied together it becomes a crap shoot, but And Then There Were None seems to be proving me wrong... so there's something else going on as well. :P
Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
Yes, also "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" -- can't seem to get that CreateSpace edition off the "top dog" position appearing first in every search of late, however many times I combine it with some other edition people would more readily recognize ... (which is what, heretofore, has always worked in defining "main book"). Sigh.
Murder by Death
I'm wondering if they aren't indexing the database as often... but still I'd have thought changes we made say, last week, would have been indexed by now. Grr...
Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
That sort of change used to show instantly -- on the book pages themselves at the very least, even if nowhere else, and you'd typically also get the new "main book" instantly as your default search result. Sigh. Anyway, you're not the only one who's been wondering what's going on lately ... again.
Murder by Death
Oh, I've been generally happy lately - I think, based on hints I see here and there, that work is being done but I think it's more infrastructure stuff, if you catch my meaning. At least I hope so. The complete lack of author tools is starting to wear on me though - I think a lot of the search mess is because of duplicate author records or bad imports creating weird author records. Kate is super responsive when I ask her to merge those names where there are too many, but it's still frustrating not being able to do it myself when I find them, and in an efficient, speedy way.

Now that I'm all caught up with the lists for today, I might play around with A.C.'s books and see if I can figure out why those two are being such a pain in the ass in search.
Themis-Athena's Garden of Books
I hear you on the author records ... and I've seen the back and forth in the librarian thread -- "please merge all author XYZ records into no. 123" / "done" / "please merge all author ABC records into no. 456" / "done" -- etc.

And, yey, at least searching by author AND book name seems to bring up the desired editions now!
SusannaG - Confessions of a Crazy Cat Lady
Would Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children qualify here?
Murder by Death
Yes, if fact I'm reading the second one for this square. And I thought I'd added it...but on searching, I did not. Adding the first one now.
SusannaG - Confessions of a Crazy Cat Lady
Excellent - I am seriously considering that one for this square.
SusannaG - Confessions of a Crazy Cat Lady
I believe The House with a Clock in Its Walls, by John Bellairs, would qualify here, too. ISBN: 0142402575

Tannat
I'm stuck - what's "MG" horror from the definition? I'm trying to review my possibilities again.
Murder by Death
HA! Stumped me for a second too, because I copied that definition from MR's post. But it means "Middle Grade".

:)
Tannat
Ah...thanks! So not an abbreviation I'm used to! I was like, "main...something?", "mainstream...something?" lol....
Murder by Death
That was me too, when I was reading your comment... lol. I was completely getting ready to respond with a "what's MG - what are you talking about?" when I thought to do a quick 'find' on the page for MG and saw exactly what you were referring to. Then it clicked. :)
Tannat
I'm just trying to keep you on your toes?
Murder by Death
;-)
Tannat
I just noticed that Coraline is on the list twice.
Murder by Death
Ah, thanks. It got to the point where I could no longer remember which titles were on which lists, so there was a bit of blind adding going on. I'll remove it now. :)
Tannat
I just noticed because there are so few books from this list on my shelves.
*Slaps head* I've got one for this and I hadn't picked any re-reads yet. Force of Chaos by Lin Senchaid. I wanted to read it again anyway!
