Summary of book: At the height of World War II, American socialites Maddie and Ellis Hyde and their friend Hank Boyd leave the comforts of their affluent life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to go searching for the Loch Ness monster in the depths of rural Scotland. Instead, Maddie discovers a new way of life, Ellis gets an adventure he never bargained for and Hank is just along for the ride.

General Setting: Drumnadrochit, Scotland is a hamlet of Inverness, at the time a small city in Scotland, on the banks of Loch Ness – the location of the notoriously elusive Loch Ness Monster. Drumnadrochit is subject to all war time restrictions that the rest of Europe is under; Blackout Restrictions – no source of light is allowed on after dark as to not provide a potential target for overhead enemy planes – no electricity, and anything that people use regularly – food, lamp oil, wax, fabric for clothes, etc., is under strict rations in order to provide as much material for the war effort. For the most part, Drumnadrochit is a quiet town in Scotland, physically removed from the battle fronts, but not emotionally. Just about every man who lives there who was eligible for enlistment is currently fighting or has been honorably discharged and has come back with scars.
